Equinox operates under the belief that greenways, parks, playgrounds, streetscapes, waterways, and residential and commercial landscapes provide excellent opportunities for the application of ecologically sensitive design principles. Our philosophy is to first listen to the client and learn what is needed, evaluate site opportunities and constraints, and select the proper approach and techniques from our tool bag of sustainable design principles to craft solutions that function well, are attractive, and are sensitive to the landscape. SEE SAMPLE PROJECTS BELOW.
One element that serves as a backbone in all of our designs is the use of native plants with the intention that they will help meet habitat needs of birds and wildlife, are less dependent on fossil fuels for maintenance and upkeep, are more adaptable to our local climate, and reflect a sense of place. Our designs can also slow and filter runoff to protect streams from pollution and streambank scour and help to recharge groundwater. This is important technology in our current age of rapidly recurring floods and drought. When a project goal includes encouraging human use and interaction of a particular landscape, our designs aim to fulfill by creating desirable spaces, addressing pragmatic issues of access and connection, and meeting educational needs through interpretive signage.
